I have been asked how did you become successful? First off, I don’t feel successful. Everyone has a different idea of what success means to them. I have so much more to do. I want to speak internationally to inspire more people, write more books, have a national TV show, and grow Prosperwell Financial to help even more people. But this got me thinking about how someone does become successful and I came up with four traits that I believe you need to have in order to reach success as a woman:
Persistence.
There was a movie that had “Persistence Pays” written on a sandwich that the kid had every day in his lunch. I will always remember that. The persistence to be better. The persistence to keep going even when there is a setback. I learned when I was young and in figure skating that practice makes perfect and that if you fall down you get back up and try again and again and again. Persistence to get back up from our mistakes and to take the time to reflect and learn from those mistakes is a crucial trait to have.
Focus and Determination.
Also while in figure skating, I had to go around and around and around in the same circle over and over and over again. I learned to set a goal and to work hard to achieve that goal. Once I achieved that goal, I then would set the next goal and work towards that one. They say it takes doing something over and over again for 30 days to form a habit, then it will come naturally. I have found successful people set goals, have processes and work to be as efficient as possible in every aspect of their life.
Generosity.
I truly believe that if you give onto others then what you give will come back to you tenfold. If you lead with giving, you will feel better about yourself as well as you will help someone else. Generally, those people have great energy and are the ones you want to be around.
Great Attitude.
Watching my son play sports has instilled even more in my mind the power of your mind and the importance of having a great attitude. “If you can believe it, you can achieve it” or “Fake it until you make it” are common phrases I heard growing up. There is a lot of truth to having a great attitude. I watched my son’s traveling baseball team make it to the state tournament. At their first game during the tournament, they made a few mistakes and those mistakes ended up costing them the game. Because of that loss, the kid’s attitude quickly diminished. They mentally had already lost the second game before it even started. This set the precedent and the team lost the tournament. This shows that attitude is everything.
We grow the most when we make mistakes and learn from them. Great leaders surround themselves with amazing people. Take time to celebrate successes as a team as well as successes as an individual. Be the best you can be. Give it your all. You only have one chance at this amazing thing called life so work hard, have fun and live life to the fullest.
